SACC, Edinburgh Stop The War Coalition and Amnesty International will mark the five-year ‘anniversary’ of the first ‘war on terror’ detainees being transported to the US military prison at Guantánamo Bay in Cuba with a demonstration in Edinburgh. We will be wearing orange boilersuits as a reminder of those being held.
We are calling for the immediate closure of Guantánamo Bay and for all other ‘war on terror’ detention centres also to be identified and closed, with detainees being properly charged before fair courts or released to safe countries.
Assemble at the Consulate at 10.30am; the letter will be handed over at 11.00 am
Everyone who shares our demands for justice is welcome - orange boilersuits will be available from SACC and Amnesty.
After the letter has been handed over, a file of supporters will walk through Edinburgh to the Scottish Parliament to demand that MSP's press the British Government to take action over Guantanamo Bay and provide effective assistance to the British residents still held there (this part of the demo is organised by SACC and Edinburgh Stop The War Coalition). We will arrive in time for a meeting in the Scottish Parliament hosted by Tommy Sheridan MSP (Solidarity) - see below.
