A Brighton-based anti-Guantanmo group, Save Omar, are responding to yesterday's publication of the European Parliament report highlighting British collusion with CIA torture flights with street theatre. Dressed as air hostesses, they will be inviting shoppers in one of Brighton's busiest areas, the North Laines, to check in to 'AIR GUANTANAMO' and will explain its 'extraordinary' in-flight security arrangements. The performance parodies the practice of torture by the United States authorities, using irony to illustrate the moral failure of those complicit with these acts.
One of the performers, Save Omar activist Louise Purbrick, stated:
'The report is, of course, is no laughing matter. Britain along with 13 other states have broken international law, or at the very least looked on and done nothing while US has ridden rough shod over both national borders and human rights. We know from the case of Omar Deghayes that the US have moved entirely innocent people around the globe through their network of 'dark' or secret prisons, where the most degrading acts of torture have occured, and then on to Guantanamo as their final destination. '
