Rendition Ex-Guantanamo detainees speak in the Parliament House PDF Print E-mail
The London Guantánamo Campaign held a parliamentary meeting on 25th February with the All Party Parliamentary Group on Guantánamo Bay, “Diego Garcia: A Year On”, to mark the first anniversary of the Foreign Secretary’s admission of British involvement in extraordinary rendition:
the refuelling of two “rendition” flights on the British-administere d island of Diego Garcia. Since then more evidence and allegations of British involvement have emerged, from the British security services involvement in the torture of Binyam Mohamed across two continents, the rendition of suspects to the US by the British army in Iraq and elsewhere. There is currently strong pressure for an independent public inquiry into the role of the government and its agencies in torture and extraordinary rendition

Three former Guantánamo detainees and survivors of the extraordinary rendition programme spoke of their experiences at the meeting: British residents Bisher Al-Rawi, Jamil El-Banna and Omar Deghayes

The London Guantánamo Campaign calls for a full public independent inquiry into the UK’s role in extraordinary rendition, to ensure justice for those involved, to make sure that the UK is not currently involved in torture and rendition, and that it will not be in the future.
